South Australian slogan date stamps.


Only two Telegram/Telegraph slogans are recorded as having been used at two Post Offices in South Australia from January 1939 to April 1956. The slogans were:

  1. SEND A TELEGRAM;
  2. TELEGRAMS: SPEEDY, RELIABLE, EFFECTIVE.

The two Offices recorded as using at least one of these slogans are:

  1. Mt. Gambier (both slogans);
  2. Port Adelaide (2nd slogan only).

Other Offices in South Australia reported as having used slogan cancellations are Hindley Street, Port Augusta and Port Lincoln. No examples of slogans are recorded in the Census from any of these three Offices.

Only the TELEGRAMS: SPEEDY, RELIABLE, EFFECTIVE slogan was used at Port Adelaide. Two dies were produced - a circular date stamp for December 1953-January 1954 and a box date stamp for 1956.
